What is the legal status of cannabis in Oklahoma?
Oklahoma, in 2015, passed Katie and Cayman’s Law. Residents of Oklahoma diagnosed with the debilitating conditions listed below can possess CBD oil or resin that has no more than 0.3% THC by weight. It also provides for clinical research into novel therapies with cannabidiol, and those studies will not be restricted to the below conditions. The law was originally restricted only to children with severe epileptic disorders, but earlier in 2017 it was expanded to protect the current conditions.
While it’s a step in the right direction, Oklahoma still has very strict cannabis and hemp policy in place. CBD works better in the presence of other cannabinoids, and restricting its administration only to a single compound mixture is effectively robbing some of the therapeutic potential from the plant. CBD oil derived from industrial hemp is 100% legal in all 50 states, as this plant never has more than trace amounts of THC, but is generally rich in CBD and other cannabinoids.
Eligible Conditions:
- Dravet syndrome, also known as severe myoclonic epilepsy of infancy
- any other severe form of epilepsy that is not adequately treated by traditional medical therapies
- Lennox-Gastaut syndrome
- intractable nausea and vomiting
- spasticity due to multiple sclerosis or due to paraplegia
- chronic wasting diseases
