What is the legal status of cannabis in Virginia?
In early 2017, Virginia enacted a package of bills which protect epileptic patients from prosecution for the possession of cannabis-based medicine. Patients here may possess and use a preparation of Cannabis oil with at least 15% CBD or THC-A by weight and less than 5% THC by weight. Furthermore, they must have attempted at least two traditional treatment methods that were unsuccessful first, and the same doctor must recommend them to use medical cannabis.
There is a push for an expansion of these laws, and to include both more methods of consumption and more qualifying conditions to the law. Nonetheless, CBD oil derived from Industrial Hemp, is 100% legal in all 50 states, as this plant never has more than trace amounts of THC, but is generally rich in CBD and other cannabinoids.
Eligible Conditions:
- Intractable epilepsy
